Don't know what your plans are for the new group but I was thinking it might be a great place to share music that inspires us, helps us treat our neuroses, lick our wounds and grow spiritually (an idea I've had for awhile but wasn't sure how to develop it).
So, I heard one of our members' songs the other day titled, "Blue Tequila." Though I'm not generally a country fan, I really enjoyed it. The hook goes:
"I like Blue Tequila in the mornin' To forget those eyes of blue that I made cry. And I drink jagermeister in a paper cup To remind me of the day that you told me goodbye."
It made me think of a multi-platinum song co-written by the SGA president, Rick Carnes, titled "Long Neck Bottle." Though Rick's song is more upbeat (a swing tune, in fact), the alcohol theme is there.
And then I went down the rabbit hole thinking of all the hit songs that have featured alcohol as a way of dealing with the pains of life (just listening to Elvis Costello's "Beyond Belief" in which he has a line, "This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel").
So, I'm wondering, is there an element of being creative (an emotional rawness, a vulnerability) that makes creative types more subject to dealing with pain with things like alcohol? Not judging (I love tequila myself, most any time). Just wondering.
To forget those eyes of blue that I made cry.
And I drink jagermeister in a paper cup
To remind me of the day that you told me goodbye."
