When teamed up with her songwriter husband Rick Carnes, the hits really piled up: Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Alabama, Steve Wariner, Pam Tillis. The duo's jazz ballad "Irresistible" scored a spot in Sony Pictures' "Saving Face," and their swing tune "I'm Hangin' Around" landed with Dean Martin himself — proof that jazz-inflected songwriting can absolutely go mainstream.
Janis also stepped out with "Hoagy 'N' Me," an album pairing some of Hoagy Carmichael's finest jazz standards with original tunes co-written by Janis with Rick. PEERMusic published it — because a voice and and talent like Janis' get industry notice.
