I wrote this song about Lanny Cordola a greatly accomplished guitarist who gave up his rock-start life to move to Kabul, Afghanistan to help the poverty stricken street kids there. The reference to "butterfly and the sun" are the English translations to the names Parwana and Khorshid. The story of these two girls death to a suicide bomber is what triggered Lanny's interest in helping these kids.

He Believes (A Girl With a Guitar)

The arena lights faded to black
Echoes of the last encore gone
He was left feeling something he lacked
There was something more to be done

He read about the untimely death
Of the Butterfly and the Sun
With Coltrane's words sounding in his head
Let your music share the love

He believes in a girl with a guitar
That a butterfly can save a soldier
He believes in a girl with a guitar
That the melody of love will ring louder

He found himself in a foreign land
Standing on the streets of Kabul
Trying to do whatever he can
To sing his songs and heal the wounds

The Butterfly's sister took his hand
He decided on his mission
He'd put a guitar into her hands
A messenger for his vision

He believes in a girl with a guitar
That a butterfly can save a soldier
He believes in a girl with a guitar
That the melody of love will ring loud
