The song here is darker and moodier than the previous one. The video suits it well and makes it more interesting to get through the song. That is not an insult to the song at all, but they understood that this was is a particular moody style with an almost dirge-like tempo and feel. The feel of the song is expressing what the lyrics are about so it is doing its job. But then the video's job is to entrance you and lock you in so that you want to experience it visually and sonically all the way through. On the surface this may seem like an impossible video to make for non-professionals without a budget. But there is a lot that went into this that many can duplicate. The camera itself is a Panasonic GH4 DSLR, which is not cheap, but not ridiculous and there are many ways to get a good/decent HD image now--including phones! The next thing they did was find a great location! This is an abandoned train car in a field. The town it belonged to had no problem with them filming there and the only drawback was they had to bring in generators to have electricity. BUT my point is that one way to make a video work is to find a great location! Next they made great use of images/people. At one point there are just people sitting in seats holding flashlights/headlamps just below seat level and this created a great lighting effect, but one that is not expensive! It is just creative!
Anyway, I think there is much to be learned from this video at any level of production, from using your phone with a few friends or your band, or with a pro crew of friends that love your music! Let's discuss this if anyone wants!
Holly CarruthersI recall you showing this to me when voting was taking place. It really is so impressive. DIdn't they also use people from the town... or maybe friends, as actors?8 years ago
