Create A Playlist

SGA President Rick Carnes was in town this week and we talked to him about how songwriters can survive and thrive in today's open market for music. His answer wasn't surprising: "Get going as many income streams as you can possibly manage." This means finding all the small ways you can get your music heard and perhaps begin to monetize it. So, here's another idea for putting your music out there:

Choose one of the music distribution services that carries your music (for example, Spotify).  Create a playlist that carries some of the more popular songs there that somehow relate to your music in terms of theme or genre. Then lace that playlist with songs of your own. The idea is to make your music seamlessly flow with what's already popular and make you seem like a new music "find."

Make sure the playlist is updated regularly or invite listeners and fans to collaborate on the list to help keep it fresh.
