YOU'RE IN MUSIC PROMOTIONThe Internet has changed many industries -- especially music. And while rampant piracy has hurt record sales and caused publishers and record labels to constrict and merge -- leaving fewer publishing opportunities -- the Internet has also allowed for more self publishing options. This is an option chosen by plenty of creative types. But until the money begins coming in, self publishing generally also means jumping into self promotion. In this group, we encourage members...

Hi all! I wanted to share an update of a post I sent earlier this week (the post is hidden). I was frustrated about business relationships I've had in my market. I was frustrated about business relationships I've had in my market. Before I joined SGA, I felt like I was facing a lot of barriers in my artist journey. So after taking a break to grieve I changed my approach with pursuing music by ensuring that I have safe spaces with likeminded people to prevent me from burning out, which is why I joined SGA. In my post I asked if anyone knew of any engineers in Maryland that they trust because that was one of the issues I was having. I didn't get an answer, which is okay, but I did find an online support group for musicians outside of SGA that I wanted to share in case someone is also going through the same thing and is struggling emotionally.
If you become a member of Americana Music Association, one of their perks is that they have an online support group for people in the music industry who are going through a hard time, whether they are grieving or experienced trauma, or need help navigating relationships in the business, etc it's a space for you.
I don't work for Americana Music Association and this is not a promotion. I'm just spreading this as a word of mouth because I know what it's like to go through a humiliating experience in the industry and feel too ashamed to open up about it or not know a space where you can share your experiences without feeling judged.
Here is the website if anyone is interested in joining: www.americanamusic.org - feeling innovative

Have any songwriters here ever got burnt out by running into business relationships where you gave a good song with a good production, but your song didn't deliver because the engineer you worked with either put in half the effort or oversold their mixing/mastering abilities to you? It happened to me in 2018. I burnt out from the experience and stopped releasing my stuff. I'm starting to put myself out there again by posting simple demos of my stuff and another guy approached me recently...Have any songwriters here ever got burnt out by running into business relationships where you gave a good song with a good production, but your song didn't deliver because the engineer you worked with either put in half the effort or oversold their mixing/mastering abilities to you? It happened to me in 2018. I burnt out from the experience and stopped releasing my stuff. I'm starting to put myself out there again by posting simple demos of my stuff and another guy approached me recently wanting to work with me, but from past experiences I'm getting red flags already that this person might be overselling their abilities....I'm kind of on a rut on finding a mixing/master engineer I can trust at this point. So I joined organizations like SGA to break this cycle. I'm based in Maryland, but I'm thinking about travelling to Nashville to get my songs recorded, mixed, and mastered. I want the mix good enough to get a publisher or label's attention. I know it will cost me a significant amount of money, but if the mix is good to me it's worth it. Does anyone know of any studios near Maryland or in Nashville you had a good experience with that you wouldn't mind referring me to? The style of music I'm recording is Americana and Acoustic Alt-Folk Punk. I want the mix to sound like it's being recorded in an cathedral. Show more
