Performance FeedbackJames Porterfield-- I've learned a lot from working with you on these shoots. One thing I will mention is that IF you're doing costume, give about 1/2 hour to prepare and dress everyone you're shooting. I am no pro in this area. I'm learning as I go. This particular shoot (with 10 cast) was a tough lesson in time management.
Great photos. The black and white is so evocative. Can't wait to see the whole thing!
I just started filming on the first of two music videos I am doing with Mike Damn of Dormtainment (their comedy album hit #1 on Billboard comedy last year). I will include some images from the first day of shooting in another post, but I wanted to share some thoughts. We all know that making a music video to support your song has to bring attention to you in some way. Or make the song seem even better with the visuals or just the performance. Making this video started weeks before the first...
Performance FeedbackIt really is an amazing video!
Yeah.. I have a comment... why is it that this just makes me feel so good? And do you think that's important?
Maybe we could have you write some articles on each of these seven points?
I recall you showing this to me when voting was taking place. It really is so impressive. DIdn't they also use people from the town... or maybe friends, as actors?
This is "Time Stops" by a Georgia band called StarBenders: vimeo.com/173546659 (or see/play below) The song here is darker and moodier than the previous one. The video suits it well and makes it more interesting to get through the song. That is not an insult to the song at all, but they understood that this was is a particular moody style with an almost dirge-like tempo and feel. The feel of the song is expressing what the lyrics are about so it is doing its job. But then the video's...
Performance FeedbackI was one of the judges of this category and my pick did win! This is "En el Vendaval" by an Argentinian duo called Ainda Dúo www.youtube.com/watch (or see/play below) This may seem simple on the surface, and the essential concept IS simple, but the execution is quite complex. They chose to shoot this with natural lighting at what is called "golden hour" -- A time when the sun is just coming up (or down) when everything seems to have a golden haze to it. It lasts about an...
Performance FeedbackI recently had the good fortune to be a judge for the Independent Music Awards. My categories were video related due to my background as a filmmaker, professional cameraman, marketer and musician. I am a jack of all trades. Which probably means expert in none! But that is for others to decide. But when making a music video, even just a video of you performing for your web cam on YouTube, you must be a jack of all trades! So many things are important: 1. The song-of course! 2. The performance....
